Specialized Session | Negotiating Humanitarian Access in Yemen
11 September 2019 - 12 September 2019
About this Session
The CCHN Specialized Session will explore the major challenges and dilemmas faced by frontline humanitarian organizations when negotiating access in Yemen. Drawing on the CCHN Field Manual on Frontline Humanitarian Negotiation, the Specialized Session will review a series of advanced negotiation tools and methods for humanitarian professionals who seek to negotiate access and deliver humanitarian assistance to populations in Yemen.
– Context analysis of negotiations in Yemen
– Network mapping and leveraging influence among stakeholders
– Development of a tactical plan for negotiations
– How to mitigate the instrumentalization of humanitarian actors
– How to design scenarios and bottom lines for negotiations
The CCHN Specialized Session further seeks to foster the creation of a dedicated circle of humanitarian professionals in the region organized around this theme. Over a one-year cycle, this peer circle will discuss the latest challenges and dilemmas pertaining to these negotiations, share negotiation experiences, reflect on the development of new tools to address some of these challenges, as well as provide peer-to-peer support.
