Training of Facilitators Program: Session B

7 February 2019 - 8 February 2019

This Training of Facilitators Program introduces participants to a series of facilitation techniques to guide humanitarian professionals through the application of  the negotiation methodology developed by the Centre of Competence on Humanitarian Negotiation. The Program is organized with the support of the Clingendael Academy, Brandeis University and Initiatives of Change Switzerland.

About the program

This three-step program prepares participants to facilitate specific CCHN modules that were designed to serve humanitarian professionals who prepare for and conduct humanitarian negotiations. Participants are further trained in different facilitation techniques and learn to apply case studies and simulation exercises. After completing the three steps, participants are invited to facilitate sessions in practice-oriented workshops organized by the Centre of Competence on Humanitarian Negotiation.

Structure

The program includes three training sessions on how to facilitate effective experiential learning events for humanitarian professionals involved in frontline negotiations. Each session lasts two days:

  • Session A: CCHN methodology and tools
  • Session B: Facilitation skills
  • Session C: Negotiation theory, concepts and skills

All participants are required to complete sessions A, B and C in order to qualify for CCHN certification. Participants decide in what order they want to attend the three sessions.

Selection criteria & expectations

The Training of Facilitators Program (ToF) is designed for humanitarian professionals from the five Strategic Partners (WFP, MSF, UNHCR, ICRC, HD) with proven experience in facilitating trainings in the humanitarian sector and in conducting humanitarian negotiations. Humanitarian professionals from other agencies and NGOs are also invited to apply and will be considered depending on availability of places. Applicants are required to have successfully completed an Advanced Regional Workshop on Frontline Humanitarian Negotiation in order to be admitted to the ToF Program. It is expected that certified participants will facilitate sessions during a minimum of two practice-oriented CCHN events over the following two years.

Fee & practical details

A cost-recovery fee of USD 600 is required from all participants in order to ensure the sustainability of the Program. This fee covers the three sessions, all the instruction materials, meeting rooms, group lunches and dinners as well as coffee breaks during the training days. Participants from the five Strategic Partners are exempt from the fee. All participants take charge of the cost of their own travel and accommodation.
