Lisa Cornish, a Devex journalist interviewed ICRC President Peter Maurer on how to maintain neutrality while navigating the minefield of politics.

From the President’s perspective, “the commonality between political and humanitarian negotiators are much bigger than what we might have initially thought  — some of the methodology is the same and some of the approaches are the same.”
The interview took place after Peter Maurer’s participation in the high level panel of the 2nd Annual Meeting of Frontline Humanitarian Negotiators in Geneva.

In the interview, Peter Maurer also highlights the importance of ensuring a high level of diversity in terms of gender, ethnicity and religion among field teams on the front-line.

Lastly, he talks about the CCHN’s role in building negotiation capacity through the collection of case studies and peer-to-peer exchanges. To read the full interview, you can click the button below.
