How to start a negotiation and build an ‘island of agreement’

Integrating your counterpart’s perspective into your opening statement is an important building block of the relationship. By starting the conversation on what you both agree on, you can start the negotiation on the right foot and limit tensions. Discover our negotiation tool called the ‘island of agreement’ to build a relationship of trust and open the door for your negotiation.

Have you ever felt the need to work on your negotiation skills? Are you curious about the CCHN negotiation methodology, but have no time to commit to a week-long workshop?

To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of our negotiation methodology, called the Naivasha grid, we are exceptionally opening our activities to all professionals working in the humanitarian sector (and beyond), who will have an opportunity to discover new negotiation strategies and improve their skills.

Throughout the year, we will organise a series of free webinars, in multiple languages and targeting multiple time zones, tackling different aspects of our negotiation methodology: from crafting a strong opening argument to de-escalating tensions and from building a relationship of trust to setting institutional red lines.

Together with our negotiation experts, you will explore:

  • How to build common ground with your counterpart
  • How to leverage your network and influence key actors
  • How to determine the negotiation type and use it to your advantage
  • How to establish your negotiation red lines
  • How to build your legitimacy in the eyes of your counterpart

✏️ Check our events calendar to discover the upcoming webinars!
