Event Details

The ongoing violence in Sudan has caused widespread displacement, destruction, and a severe humanitarian crisis, directly impacting populations and humanitarian operations across the Chad–Sudan border, including cross-border and cross-line responses. Humanitarian access is extremely challenging due to insecurity, bureaucratic and administrative constraints, logistical constraints, and rapidly changing field dynamics, requiring humanitarian teams operating from Chad and Sudan to negotiate effectively with multiple authorities, armed actors, and community stakeholders to deliver aid safely and efficiently.

This onsite Peer Workshop on Humanitarian Negotiation aims to support humanitarian actors and coordination teams involved in the Chad–Sudan cross-border response, who are planning, supporting, or conducting negotiations on either side of the border. By joining the workshop, you will learn how to analyse the environment in which the negotiation takes place, including cross-border dynamics and decision-making structures, identifying the role and influence of stakeholders involved, and put in place different strategies to achieve your negotiation objectives in complex, fluid operational contexts. You will also familiarise yourself with practical negotiation tools and peer-tested methods directly applicable to cross-border humanitarian operations to support your negotiation process.

What does “Peer Workshop” mean?

Our workshops are not delivered by lecturers; they are based on the sharing of experiences among peers, with the support of our facilitators and experts. We invite you to discuss your own negotiation experiences to learn from and with each other. The workshops are highly interactive: our facilitators split participants into smaller discussion groups of 5-7 people. We encourage you to listen to others and reflect together on the many challenges of frontline negotiations.
