18aug3:00 pm4:30 pm'Speaker Series' webinar | Presentation and Discussion: Local Reconciliation and Mediation in Colombia

Event Details

After we visited Oman in our previous Speaker’s series on Local Reconciliation and Mediation, our next stop will be in Colombia with Save the Children’s research on how communities engage with traditional authorities to influence state authorities and non-state armed actors (including recognised governments, NSAGs, and gangs).

In most contexts where humanitarian workers operate, there are several layers of authority within the local society. Apart from state authorities (civilian and military) and non-state armed actors (including recognized governments, NSAGs, and gangs), there is often some form of tribal, clan and/or religious authority, community leaders, neighbourhood authorities etc., hereafter referred to as traditional authorities, that solve disputes among civilians, but also excerpt power over other state authorities and non-state armed actors. Members of the local communities often resort to traditional authorities to influence people in power.

Join this webinar to learn how to negotiate and engage with traditional authorities to influence state authorities and NSAs.
