Event Details

This Peer Workshop will help you plan and conduct negotiations in humanitarian contexts. You will learn how to analyse the social and political environment in which a negotiation takes place, identify the role and influence of the other actors involved, and put in place different strategies to achieve your negotiation objectives. You will also discover some practical tools to support your negotiation process. Completing a Peer Workshop is a pre-requisite to joining the CCHN community of practice and attending more advanced negotiation workshops and learning activities.

Language: English

Dates: 07-10 April 2026

Location: Online (Zoom)

Cost: Free of charge

Maximum number of participants: 35

WHAT ARE THE SELECTION REQUIREMENTS?

  • You should have worked as a humanitarian field practitioner for at least three years.

  • You should have work experience in Ukraine, or a strong operational focus on Ukraine.

  • The workshop is open to both national and international staff from humanitarian organisations and is fully free of charge.

If you are unsure whether your profile meets the criteria, please don’t hesitate to contact the organisers. You will find their contact information at the end of the page.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

We will structure the workshop’s program around the content of the CCHN Field Manual on Frontline Humanitarian Negotiation. By the end of the workshop, you will have learned to:

  • Analyse the environment in which the negotiation takes place;
  • Develop a tactical plan and assemble the right negotiation team;
  • Critically reflect on your role in the negotiation and how your counterpart may perceive you;
  • Identify the actors that influence your counterpart’s behaviour;
  • Understand your counterpart’s position, reasoning and values;
  • Define your own position, your institutional limitations and bottom lines;
  • Use basic techniques to de-escalate a high-tension situation.

You will put your new learning into practice during a simulation exercise at the end of the workshop. Once you complete this Peer Workshop, you will become a member of the CCHN community and gain access to a wider range of advanced workshops and activities on humanitarian negotiation.
