Event Details

This onsite Peer Workshop on Humanitarian Negotiation aims to support humanitarian professionals working in Sudan, with a particular focus on navigating the complexities of negotiations in crisis settings. As the humanitarian situation in Sudan continues to evolve, this workshop will equip participants with the skills to effectively plan and conduct negotiations in the face of unprecedented challenges. You will learn how to analyze the dynamic environment in which negotiations occur, assess the roles and influence of key stakeholders, and develop tailored strategies to achieve your negotiation objectives. Additionally, you will gain hands-on experience with practical tools and methodologies that can help strengthen your negotiation process in these high-pressure contexts.

NB: The CCHN cannot cover the travel or accommodation costs of participants.

What will I learn?

We structure the workshop’s program around the content of the CCHN Field Manual on Frontline Humanitarian Negotiation. By the end of the workshop, you will have learned to:

  1. Plan your negotiation strategically 
  2. Conduct context analyses and network assessments 
  3. Analyse the interests and motives of your counterparts
  4. Set objectives and priorities in your negotiation
  5. Define scenarios and red lines in your negotiation
  6. Evaluate the negotiation process 

How much time will it take?

Day 1 (Tuesday 04 February): 09:00 AM-12:30 PM and 13:30 AM-17:00 PM

Day 2 (Wednesday 05 February): 09:00 AM-12:30 PM and 13:30 AM-17:00 PM

Day 3 (Wednesday 06 February): 09:00 AM-12:30 PM and 13:30 AM-17:00 PM

Attendance during the above-mentioned hours is mandatory for all participants to receive a certificate of participation. In addition, participants are expected to set aside some time each day for individual activities and group projects outside of the workshop sessions.

What does “Peer Workshop” mean?

Our workshops are not delivered by lecturers; they are based on the sharing of experiences among peers, with the support of our facilitators and experts. We invite you to discuss your own negotiation experiences to learn from and with each other. The workshops are highly interactive: our facilitators split participants into smaller discussion groups of 5-7 people. We encourage you to listen to others and reflect together on the many challenges of frontline negotiations.

Selection Criteria

WHAT ARE THE SELECTION REQUIREMENTS?

  • You should have worked as a humanitarian professional in the field for at least 3 years
  • You should have experience working in Sudan.
  • The workshop is open for national humanitarian organisations workers in priority and is entirely free of charge
