The CCHN is offering a 3-hour module on critical decision making during complex negotiations for senior-level Regional/Country Representatives or Deputy Representatives. Delivered by Kirk Kinnell, a professional negotiator with 30 years of experience in law enforcement and hostage negotiation, the module will explore crisis management models from government and law enforcement with an opportunity to interrogate and apply those tools to a humanitarian negotiation case.

This event is organised by the Center of Competence on Humanitarian Negotiation, a joint initiative of five humanitarian agencies (ICRC, MSF, UNHCR, WFP and HD Centre).

What are the session’s objectives

This session on critical decision-making during Complex Negotiations will develop the capacity of senior humanitarians to take critical decisions during negotiations; by exploring tools that

  • Focus on informed decisions that protect management, staff, and the organisation
  • Outline a process for decision making
  • Provide examples of different decision-making processes and their application in other sectors, including the National Decision Model Kirk Kinnell developed and piloted with US law enforcement.
