Thematic Session | Search and Rescue (SAR)

22mar10:30 am12:00 pmThematic Session | Search and Rescue (SAR)

Event Details

This Thematic Session builds upon the CCHN Peer Workshop which was conducted in Rome, Italy, from 24-26 October 2023, in partnership with MSF Mediterranean. It seeks to provide a space for CCHN Community Members and humanitarian practitioners to exchange around the main challenges, dilemmas, and best practices surrounding Search and Rescue (SAR) operations at sea, whilst also acting as a platform for the guest speakers to share their valuable insights on the topic.

This initiative is especially pertinent in light of continued sea arrivals on the European continent via the Mediterranean, which, according to UNHCR, have amounted close to 14,000 individuals in the first few months of 2024 alone. Moreover, this Thematic Session presents itself as a perfect capacity-building opportunity for participants, especially since SAR is a relatively recent humanitarian field, which, arguably, lacks extensive professionalisation and solid humanitarian mechanisms.
