Thematic Speaker Series (Online) | IHL & Protection Negotiations - IHL, Humanitarian Principles & Humanitarian Negotiation

12nov2:00 pm4:00 pmThematic Speaker Series (Online) | IHL & Protection Negotiations - IHL, Humanitarian Principles & Humanitarian Negotiation

Event Details

The following thematic speaker series has been conceptualised as a natural development to the CCHN’s Protection Negotiations Thematic Group, whilst also being reflective of the gap faced by various humanitarian professionals between normative (legal) standards – linked to international humanitarian law (IHL) – and operational field realities, a dynamic which oftentimes has forced practitioners to be highly pragmatic in their humanitarian engagements. Furthermore, such an initiative seems ever-more relevant in light of the fact that 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, which form the core of IHL itself.

Consequently, please join us for the second event in the series, where we will explore the critical intersections between IHL, humanitarian principles, and negotiation strategies to enhance your protection efforts, ensuring adherence to legal frameworks even in the most complex of humanitarian contexts.

We will be joined by:

Dr Rob Grace | Lead Researcher at Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict and Visiting Lecturer in the Experimental College at Tufts University

Jonathan Somer | Legal Advisor, Danish Red Cross (DRC)
