This Online Peer Workshop on Humanitarian Negotiation is tailored to healthcare workers in humanitarian contexts. It will place a particular focus on negotiations with health authorities and armed actors for access to and provision of healthcare services to affected populations, protection of healthcare infrastructure and personnel.
By joining the workshop, you will learn how to analyze the environment in which the negotiation takes place, identify the role and influence of the stakeholders involved, and put in place different strategies to achieve your team’s negotiation objectives. You will also familiarize yourself with some practical tools and methods to support your negotiation process.
The workshop is highly interactive: we invite participants to share their own experiences, discuss, join simulation exercises and learn from each other’s expertise.
This event is organised by the Center of Competence on Humanitarian Negotiation, a joint initiative of five humanitarian agencies (ICRC, MSF, UNHCR, WFP and HD Centre).

Participants remain connected over time through a private online forum where they can exchange and interact. What does Peer Workshop mean?
Our workshops are not delivered by lecturers; they are based on the sharing of experiences among peers, with the support of our facilitators and experts. We invite you to discuss your own negotiation experiences to learn from and with each other. The workshops are highly interactive: our facilitators split participants into smaller discussion groups of 5-7 people. We encourage you to listen to others and reflect together on the many challenges of frontline negotiations.
Please note we will invite you to switch on your computer’s camera and microphone so that you can actively take part in the discussion.
